Unexplained Nonthermal Fire
 Document #92  Status: Unverified
 Class: Location: US-South, Year: 2003

 Summary
Eyewitnesses report a bright blaze burning with no consumption of fuel and generating no heat.

 Details  Print

Seven eyewitness reports have been filed regarding a strange fire burning Southeast of Fitzgerald, GA that exhibited two curious properties: It generated no heat and did not consume fuel or otherwise damage the surrounding area. The eyewitness accounts, obtained separately from observers viewing the event from different perspectives, matched almost perfectly. They report a column of bright burning fire that they were able to approach very closely while feeling no heat from the flames. After the fire extinguished itself, it was found that the trees and grass in the area showed none of the typical charring and burning one would expect from a fire, nor was there any immediately apparent damage to the surrounding areas.

Investigation is ongoing.
