Locusts
 Document #45  Status: Debated
 Class: Year: 2003, Location: US-Midwest

 Summary
An unexplained and previously unseen mass locust dieout has occurred in several isolated areas in the Midwest US.

 Details  Print
It has been reported through various news outlets that isolated groups consisting of thousands of dead locusts have been discovered across the states of the Midwestern US. Entomologists and Earth Scientists are currently examining a number of insects from each area to determine what effect, if any, weather patterns, pesticides, or other environmental issues may have had on these bizarre incidents.

Eyewitnesses report that the ground is covered, in some instances to a depth of 2 to 3 inches, with the dead insects. Most locations report the insects are confined to within an area roughly one square block in size.
