 Details  Print

An abattoir on the outskirts of Bordeaux, France, reports a spate of animals lacking certain internal organs. The owner of the abattoir, Georges Lambert, said in a statement that the animals did not seem to be adversely affected before their deaths. Lambert took his story to Sud Ouest, which reports the phenomenon in detail. Of particular note is the list of the affected animals: cows missing liver (3); cows missing spleen (2); horses missing heart (1); pigs missing kidney (4); pigs missing liver (2); sheep missing kidney (2); sheep missing spleen (2). One possible explanation, hinted at in the newspaper report, proposes that the ‘missing’ organs were simply taken by unscrupulous employees, but M. Lambert denies this strenuously. There seems to be no history of unusual phenomenon in the area around the abattoir or the surrounding farmland.
